Every year, campus ministries across the country partner with Unto to take students on mission. Spring break and summer mission opportunities allow students to see the world, share the message of Jesus and meet physical needs. For many, it is a life-changing and faith-building experience.
For the fourth year in a row, the campus team leader took a group of US college students to help serve alongside the campus ministry in El Salvador. It is a beautiful partnership as college students from two continents serve together and make a lasting impact for those in need.
Last year, they hosted vision clinics for four days, serving 859 individuals who otherwise lacked access to eyecare and eyeglasses. They also had the opportunity to share the message of Jesus with 262 people and saw 54 people respond in faith.
Rosa was one of the people impacted. As one of the college students on the trip, Alberto, helped Rosa find the correct pair of eyeglasses, she opened up about her life. She and her husband were both dealing with serious health issues. They were about to be evicted from their home. She asked for prayer. As Alberto began praying, Rosa started to sob.
Other team members surrounded them. They had the joy of seeing Rosa respond to the message of hope.
Just three weeks before joining the vision clinic team, Alberto trusted Christ. He had been praying for God to use him on this trip and asked that he could see someone gain their spiritual sight. God answered his prayer when he saw Rosa and others come to faith.
Humanitarian projects have helped open many doors for ministry in El Salvador. Our local staff team has been able to serve many new communities. They have also seen many students, who first joined one of these mission trips, join the team as a longer-term volunteer or even as staff! Today, more people in El Salvador can see clearly — both physically and spiritually. Many students have also come to faith and become multiplying disciples who tell others about Jesus!
