They May Be Closed — But You Can Still Go

Hope All Around the World

By Amanda DeWitt

In many tough places, there is little help for impoverished, displaced and suffering people. They are also often closed to the message of Jesus. The gift of humanitarian aid helps open doors for ministry — so unreached people can receive help and hear about hope.

AFRICA

Yousef* is from an unreached people group in Sudan — where a civil war is ravaging lives. Previously, he worked as a journalist. But after being attacked and beaten in the head, Yousef lost his sight. He fled his home country and now lives in a refugee camp in neighboring South Sudan.

SOUTHEAST ASIA

Kiet* longed to follow Jesus. But he didn’t know how …

In his Southeast Asian country, only .8% of people follow Jesus. Although he had heard of Jesus, Kiet wasn’t from a Christian family, so he had little opportunity to learn more.

When the local team provided Kiet with a hygiene kit, he was so grateful! They also had the opportunity to share the gospel. At the end of their conversation, Kiet eagerly committed his life to Christ and is now part of a discipleship group where he is growing spiritually!

THE MIDDLE EAST

Sanad* arrived at an Unto vision clinic in need of eyeglasses. He left with so much more.

After the local staff team fitted Sanad with a pair of glasses, they asked if they could pray with him. Previously, Sanad had endured a serious cancer battle. He asked the team to pray it wouldn’t return.

Our team member gently asked him, “If you died today, would you be with God?”

“I don’t know,” he replied. “How can you know?”

The team asked if they could share the good news about Jesus, and Sanad listened intently. At the end, he responded in faith to the message! The team gave him a Bible, and local church leaders will follow up with him.
