Murat* was the religious leader of his village in Suriname — and very hostile to the message of Jesus.
When our Unto® partner, Pastor Erwin, came to Murat’s village, he did not just talk about Jesus. He demonstrated Jesus’ love in action. After Pastor Erwin brought food to a family in need, the critically ill husband told him, “I’ve been waiting a long time for someone to tell me about Christ.”
The husband and his wife came to faith that day and pointed Pastor Erwin to Murat. If he could reach Murat, he could reach the whole village.
Pastor Erwin began building a relationship with Murat. He kept showing up with meals and other critical items. Over time, these two men developed a strong and trusting bond.
Two years later, Murat told Pastor Erwin he was ready to follow Jesus.
Today, six people in this previously unreached village meet regularly for Bible study. Pastor Erwin and others from his church still travel long distances to support and teach the group. They continue to serve families in need — they know building hope takes time. They are committed to reaching the unreached across Suriname with the help and hope of Jesus.
