Agriculture workshop in an indigenous community
In rural Guatemala, agriculture is a way of life. Gardens of all shapes and sizes produce sustenance for families and generate income for small businesses. However, these communities, often located hours from the capital city, have limited access to resources that help them grow their own food.
To address this need and create an opportunity for sharing the gospel, local Cru® Global Church Movements (GCM) staff plan to host an Agriculture workshop next year. The local staff’s contact has been working with this community, showing the JESUS film and partnering with church planters. The local staff are prayerful that this project will provide credibility to his ministry along with other GCM church planters in the region.
Through lessons on soil health, fertilization, and optimal harvesting patterns, workshop participants have the opportunity to share their struggles around growing crops with others and learn new, sustainable practices. At the same time, Scripture is woven into each lesson to communicate how God supplies for our needs through His creation.
The project will be in partnership with a local church who will follow up with individuals who accept Christ or are interested in learning more about following Jesus. By meeting an immediate need, this project is expected to serve approximately 500 people — both direct beneficiaries and their household members!
